Man Utd held to a draw by Twente in Europa League opener

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Twente in their Europa League opener on Thursday night.

Christian Eriksen gave United the lead in the first half with a superb strike from inside the penalty area.

However, he conceded the equaliser when he allowed himself to be caught by Sam Lammers outside the United penalty area.

Lammers made the most of the opportunity as he unleashed a powerful shot past Andre Onana.

Erik ten Hag’s side stumbled early in their Europa League campaign against boyhood club Twente, who went home happy after taking a point from the clash at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen provided an assist as Galatasaray beat POAK 3-1.

In other Europa League games on Wednesday, AZ Alkmaar beat IF Elfsborg 3-2; Bodo/Glimt beat Porto 3-2; and Anderlecht beat Ferencváros 2-1.

Dynamo Kyiv lost 3-0 at home to Lazio Roma; Ludorogets lost 2-0 to Slavia Prague; Nice and Real Sociedad drew 1-1.
