Manchester United’s chief Ruben Amorim, made a bold call before Sunday’s trip to Newcastle, leaving the first option of first option Andre Onana after a wave of recent errors, especially in the first match of the Europa League against Lyon.
But if Amorim expected the calm of the storm, what he obtained was a new type of chaos, and possibly a full -fledged goalkeeper crisis.
Altay Bayindir, delivered his first beginning of the Premier League, suffered a nightmare debut between the sticks when Newcastle United was disturbance with a 4-0 victory, exposing without mercy the bet that the United season could define.
Bayindir’s great opportunity becomes sour
With Onana not even named at the bank, be it a tactical break or silent degradation, all eyes turned to Bayindir, a firm of Β£ 4.3 million of Fenerbahce who had waited almost a year for this opportunity.
He took less than 90 minutes for that opportunity to crumble.
The Turkish international granted four goals of six shots in the target, fought under air pressure and completed only 47.4% of its passes, a statistic that became painfully relevant when its neglected chippy pass to the center of the field was intercepted by Joelinton and punished by Bruno GuimarΓ£es by the Newcastle room.
It was the type of error that left experts by questioning not only Bayindir’s sharpness, but the love trial.
Onana out, but for how long?
The decision to drop onana occurred days after his mistakes in Lyon gave him the French team two goals in the 2-2 draw.
It was the last thing in a growing list of mishaps: eight errors that lead to goals since the beginning of last season, more than any other Guardian of the Premier League.
But the former goalkeeper of England Paul Robinson believes that Amorim’s decision to deliver it was less about the punishment and more about protection.
“Sometimes you need to get the goalkeeper out of the shooting line,” Robinson said in 5 live.
“It’s a good man management, but only if you handle the next step correctly. I don’t hope to see him play on Thursday.”
That next step? The quarterfinal second leg of the European League against Lyon in Old Trafford, possibly the most important love of Amorim since he arrived in United.
With a Trophy and Champions League qualification, still within reach, the Portuguese chief now faces a dilemma: remember a shaking or a stick with an unstable bayindir.
A bet that could chase United

The risk of rotating goalkeepers at this stage of the season is immense. And Amorim may have discovered in the difficult way in which to change the guardians in the middle of the transmission can cause more problems than it solves.
Now, United’s manager faces a definition decision: trust the goalkeeper out so that it is broken under pressure or is maintained with the backup that has already done so. Anyway, the margin of error has gone.
Thursday could determine the destination of the United season, and the reign of Amorim.
