Former Kogi West Senator and 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, on Saturday, launched a scathing attack on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of destroying the party.
In a social media post on Saturday, Melaye claimed that the PDP had lost its relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Melaye specifically targeted the acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, the national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and the national organising secretary, Umar Bature, for criticism.
He alleged that they had “irreparably damaged the party” through their actions.
He wrote, “End of the journey of PDP because Damagum, Bature and Anyanwu have destroyed the party. We will talk about commercialization and privatization of PDP. PDP is no more.”

This happened when PDP lawmakers in the House of Representatives, under the auspices of the Opposition Coalition, leveled serious allegations against Damagum and Anyanwu.
They accused party leaders of secretly assisting a defecting former Rivers State House of Representatives member in a plot to impeach Governor Sim Fubara.
Damagum later responded, denying any wrongdoing and warning that he would not be intimidated into resigning. He dismissed calls for him to step down, saying it would only boost his popularity.
The crisis within the PDP has raised concerns about the party’s ability to effectively challenge the ruling party ahead of the 2023 elections.
