The Nigerian military, on Thursday, announced the interception of N10 billion worth of stolen crude oil and the neutralization of 2,245 terrorists.
The announcement, made by the Defense Headquarters (DHQ) during its bi-weekly briefing, highlights ongoing efforts to combat two major security challenges plaguing the country: oil theft and terrorism.
Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba provided the figures on Thursday at the DHQ bi-weekly briefing in Abuja.

Buba said, “During the second quarter of this year, troops have neutralized 2,245 terrorists, arrested 3,682 suspected terrorists and other criminal elements as well as rescued 1,993 kidnapped hostages and denied oil theft estimated at over N10 billion alone – 9,225,149 liters of stolen crude oil , 2,874,916 liters of illegally refined AGO, 29,900 liters of DPK and 31,380 liters of PMS, among other items, have been recovered.”
Buba added that troops found 2,783 weapons and 64,547 rounds of ammunition.
“The details for the period include but are not limited to the following: 1,169 AK47 rifles, 36,273 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, 14,764 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, 713 types of weapons and 9,850 types of ammunition,” he added.
The intercepted crude oil, estimated at more than 9 million litres, is a major financial blow to criminal groups involved in oil theft. Oil theft has long been a concern in Nigeria, costing the country billions of dollars in revenue. The successful interception demonstrates the military’s commitment to tackling this economic crime.
