Military destroys 84 illegal oil refineries in Niger Delta

The Defence Headquarters has announced that the military has destroyed 84 illegal refinery sites and denied stealing crude oil worth N943.16 million in the Niger Delta region.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, said the military had made significant progress in combating crude oil theft and illegal refining.

β€œWe have not achieved the daily crude oil production target, but the troops will continue to provide new enthusiasm and momentum until the crude oil production target is achieved and exceeded,” Buba said.

According to Buba, troops have discovered and deactivated 84 illegal refineries, denied siphoning off crude oil worth N943.16 million, and recovered items including arms, ammunition and vehicles. β€œThe troops recovered 920,800 litres of stolen crude oil, 88,760 litres of illegally refined AGO and 7,500 litres of PMS,” he added.

Buba also said the military had neutralized 147 terrorists, arrested 404 criminals and rescued 113 kidnapped hostages across the country. β€œThe army has neutralized 81 terrorists, arrested 52 suspects and rescued 34 kidnapped hostages in the North East,” he said.

Buba further stressed that the military is working resolutely to address insecurity and ensure the safety of citizens.

“We are continuously assessing our actions, adjusting and refining our operations to eliminate terrorists across the country. Therefore, the forces are working resolutely to kill terrorists, end insecurity and ensure the safety of citizens across the country,” he said.

He also appealed to the public to support the military’s efforts in eradicating insecurity in the country. β€œWinning a war does not only depend on the military, weapons and finances. Victory also depends on the people. Together we can make a tremendous difference in eradicating insecurity in our country,” Buba added.

In addition, Buba stated that the military had recovered various items including weapons, ammunition and vehicles.

β€œThe troops seized 74 mixed firearms, 3,498 mixed ammunition, consisting of one dushka, one RPG bomb, one RPG filler, 42 AK47 rifles, 10 homemade rifles, 13 dane rifles, one FN rifle, one revolver pistol, one locally made pistol, 27 magazines, one imitation AK47 rifle, one AK47 top cover, and one baofeng radio,” he said.

Buba stressed that the military is committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and will continue to work tirelessly to address insecurity in the country.
