Moses Simon scored his first goal of the new season as Nantes secured a 2-0 victory over Auxerre to secure their first Ligue 1 win of the campaign.
The Nigerian winger opened the scoring in the 14th minute, with a well-placed shot from inside the area that gave the Canaries an early lead.
Simon, who had been very active throughout the match, was substituted in the 78th minute by Egyptian striker Mostafa Mohamed as Nantes tried to maintain their lead.
The hosts sealed victory in stoppage time when Baherba Guirassy found the back of the net, doubling their lead and confirming the three points.
This win is Nantes’ first of the season after a goalless draw against Toulouse in their opening game. The former Ligue 1 champions will hope to build on this good run of form in their campaign.
Auxerre, meanwhile, had Nigerian defender Gabriel Osho on hand for the full 90 minutes, but his efforts were not enough to avoid defeat. The result leaves Auxerre in search of their first points of the season.
Nantes’ performance will be a boost for the team, which is hoping to climb the Ligue 1 table.
