The movement for the survival of the Ogoni (Mosop) people has greatly criticized the disorder of peaceful demonstrations in the river state, where thousands of people gathered to protest the federal government’s plan to continue the oil exploration in the ogoni land without overcoming a long time ago.
Protest, which occurred in Ogoni and attracted more than 4,000 participants, organized by the Coalition of Civil Rights Groups who demanded justice and transparency. The demonstrators called for the rearrangement of the proposed oil to the core problems such as environmental cleaning, respect for community rights, and inclusive dialogue handled correctly.
President Mosop, Fegalo Nsuke, condemned the police’s actions, calling him an attack on fundamental freedom.
“People must be free to express their dissatisfaction. That is the essence of a democratic system. To stop peace protests in such a way that it cannot be accepted and undemocratic,” Nsuke said.
He stressed that the federal government approach to restarting oil operations in Ogoni had failed to reflect the concerns of local residents.

“We want the right dialogue that is transparent and inclusive. We insist that there will be no start of oil until all basic demands are fulfilled. That is our position and that is the position of the ogoni people,” he said.
This disorder is increasingly inflamed tension throughout the ogoni community, where environmental problems that are rooted remains. Residents are worried that new oil activities, without adequate protection, can worsen ecological damage caused by oil spills and neglect for decades.
