A woman and her newborn quadruples died due to inadequate medical care in Hiitom, in the community of Ikyor, in the area of the local government of Ushongo in the state of Benue.
The tragedy occurred at the St. Francis Primary Healthcare Center, Ikyor, where the woman, a widow, went into labor around 4 in the morning

The officer responsible for St. Francis Primary Healthcare Center, Isaac Gbilin, said the woman had never participated in prenatal care due to the lack of support.

Her father, Stephen Shaagee, said that his daughter had fought to take care of her three children who survived after losing her husband.

The head of Ikyor, the chief Samuel Iyohule, through the Ephraim Ayua tax collector, thanked the state government for his intervention, although he arrived too late.
He also appealed to better health care and basic services in the community.
