The 13 -year -old Nigerian fence athlete, Peluola Akinbamiro, has revealed how his trip to fencing was inspired by his mother, Kitan, saying that he fed his passion for sport.
Akinbamiro, who is a promising athlete, in an interview with Sportxvibe.com.ng, acknowledged his mother’s effort, saying that he registered her at Fort Blessed Academy in Houston, in an effort to update her dreams.
“First I discovered the fencing by chance as I watched a television program. Speed, grace and power behind each movement caught my attention and I didn’t let it go. I turned to my mother and said: “I want to try this.” And from that moment, it all started to change.
“My mother believed in me before I knew what this trip would be like. He approached a fencing group, found a better academy and made sure to have all the opportunities to train and grow. His support became the basis of everything I have achieved since then,” he said.
The teenager who reconnected with my roots after promising her loyalty, described the decision as the right step to become great in sport.
Before the 23rd African fencing championship, optimism expressed to ensure a medal and end in the top three.
“My goal is clear: finish in the top 3 and win a medal for Nigeria. I know it will not be easy, but I am ready. I have trained for this moment, sacrificed for it and I dreamed of that from the day I picked up my first role, he said.
She emphasized that her last dream is to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games.
“I am determined to make that dream come true. It all started with a spark of curiosity, but it was the love and belief of my mother that made it something real. Now, every time I spend the piste, I carry its strength, the colors of my country and my unwavering determination of making history,” he said.
