“My presidency will lead Nigeria to prosperity,” Atiku Bode George responded.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to remarks made to a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, regarding his presidential aspirations.

George, who was speaking on a programme on Arise TV on Friday, said Atiku’s presidency would destabilise the country.

He said: “What am I looking for? Let us stand firm on the truth because only the truth will set you free. When we had that election, we split the party (PDP) into two.

“If Atiku wins, I will stay at home because I know for sure that in the future he will collapse. This country will never accept that.”

However, in a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Paul Ibe, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 election said his presidency would lead the country into an era of prosperity.

He also slammed former military administrators of Ondo State for bringing ethnic sentiments into discussions on who would rule the state.

The statement read: “Contrary to Chief Bode George’s tactless talk, @atiku’s presidential term will herald an era of prosperity, driven by a cabinet full of experienced and skilled people, selected solely on merit, without regard to their background or beliefs.

“Such leadership will protect Nigeria’s interests, away from the bigotry, nepotism and plunder that have characterized this administration. Instead of the current chaotic state, fueled by haphazard policies, Nigeria will thrive under Atiku’s guidance.

“In contrast, we see Bode George, who once threatened to be exiled if Tinubu came to power, now strangely silent about the current administration. Is Bode’s reluctance because Atiku is not from his region? It would be wise to consider Bode’s opinion carefully.

“Bode’s actions were a disservice to the military, an institution revered for its unity. Here was a Commodore who, paradoxically, embraced tribalism and undermined military principles. It is a source of shame to the armed forces to have such a figure in their ranks.”
