My Super Eagles team did better: Peseiro mocks third place at AFCON

Former Nigeria senior national team coach Jose Peseiro says his team, which finished second in the AFCON two years ago, had better results than the one that finished third in the tournament in January, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Peseiro led the team to their first AFCON final since 2013, a match they lost 1-2 to hosts Ivory Coast. It was his best result in 11 years.

Reacting to their third place finish in the tournament in Morocco, Peseiro said Nigeria, as one of Africa’s giants, is always expected to win the AFCON.

“Nigeria is a big football country in Africa and every tournament comes with expectations. You are expected to reach the AFCON final and we did that two years ago. The best result in a long time. I see the team finished third in the last tournament,” he said in an interview in Portugal.
