NAF institutes measures to end civil victims in operations

In a bold move to improve the protection of civilians in conflict areas, the Nigerian aeronautics (NAF) inaugurated a mitigation of civil damage and response (CHMR) to guide the implementation of its action plan for the mitigation of civil damage (CHMR-AP).
An NAF Air Commodore Ehient Ejodame spokesman’s statement has observed that the strategic initiative reflects NAF’s growing commitment to support international humanitarian law and incorporate responsibility in aerial operations.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Directors, the head of the aerial staff (CAS), the aerial marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, represented by the head of civil civil relations, the vice air marshal Ibikunle Daramola, regained the constant commitment of NAF to protect civilians during the operations.

He observed that the NAF remains resolved in ensuring that its missions are conducted with precision, responsibility and humanity.
“We will continue to adapt and perfect our strategies to minimize the damage and strengthen the legitimacy of our operations,” said the CAS, underlining the importance of incorporating the civil protection into the heart of NAF’s aerial energy doctrine.

According to the CAS, “an effective implementation requires rapid coordination in the entire level of NAF. This advice will ensure that our commitment is translated into measurable actions”.

The key responsibilities of the Board of Directors include the identification, compilation and evaluation of data on the accidents of the civil damage. This includes intelligence from the NAF combat assessments, from the relationships of partner nations, non -governmental organizations, groups of civil society and open source materials.
In addition, the Civil Damage evaluation cell is accused of conducting damage assessments, analyzing models and trends, tracing lessons and monitoring implementation progress.

“This is a critical institutional step,” said Marshal Air Abubakar.
“We must ensure that our aerial operations do not compromise the security of the people we have sworn to protect. Each innocent life is important.”

It has observed that over the years “NAF has constantly adapted its strategy to satisfy the evolution threat environment of Nigeria, using aerial energy with precision in various theaters across the country. The institution of the CHMR Council is another layer in this transformation, strengthening the NAF mission to balance operational effectiveness with ethical responsibility”.

The aeronautical marshal Abubbakar observed that institutionalizing the mitigation of civil damage, the NAF aims not only to reduce the risk of civil victims, but also to encourage greater public trust and operational transparency.
