The National Assembly has announced that the Constitution revision report would be sent to the 36 state houses of assemblies throughout the country by December 2025.

This was disclosed in a declaration issued on Saturday by Opeyemi Bamidele, leader of the President of the Senate/Zonale, the Senate Committee for the revision of the 1999 Constitution.

According to Bamidele, all interested parties with special requests should engage and press on their state assemblies.

He also stated that the National Assembly “cannot successfully review the establishment of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) without their approval”.

He observed that the National Assembly had completed the public audition on the revision of the Constitution and the Committee would return to Abuja to prepare the report.

His declared: “Part of our calendar is to have final notifications by the end of the year and transmit our report to all state assemblies. This will complete the process of revision of the Constitution”.

He added that the revision process was not a jamboree in contrast with some dissenting opinions throughout the federation.

He said that the review was designed to make consequential reforms that could guarantee our collective prosperity, a more efficient governance structure and sustainable development.

Bamidele said: “There is nothing that the national assembly can do without a two -thirds approval of all proposals by state legislatures. All interested parties must work with their state legislators. We must appreciate the role of the state assemblies in guaranteeing the passage of proposals in the laws.

“State assemblies are part of the process. We have been to the state of Lagos for the last 48 hours, listening to the aspirations, concerns and will of people. All six states in the geo-political area have been represented by their elected representatives. We are in this process together to receive their presentations,” said the legislator.
