Leading the race from beginning to end, James maintained his composure to stop the leader of the Nigeria season, Jimoh, in what served as national tests for the next World Athletics Championships of 2025 in Tokyo.
Speaking exclusively with Sports247 after the race, James expressed his joy in defending his crown despite not reaching his target time:
“I am really excited to have been able to defend my title. Although the winning time was not what I expected, but in total we give glory to God,” he said.
On the career strategy, he explained:
“In the course of the execution of the race, I think the first round was a little slower than expected, so that affected the entire race.”
James also praised his rivals to maintain hard and attractive competition:
“Of course, they did a great job. You can’t compete with yourself, you should always have opponents. I would say that my companions did an incredible job and I am grateful.”
Looking towards the future, the current champion revealed his long -term ambition:
“In the next two or three years, I want to see myself competing with the best in the world.”
She ended with a message for fans and possible sponsors:
“They should continue to pray for us and wait for the best. As for the corporate world, we expect more sponsorship. Athletics in Nigeria has really lacked sponsorship, and we hope that corporations will investigate it and help you sponsor competitions.”
With this victory, Comfort James strengthens his reputation as one of Nigeria’s best medium distance corridors while changing his focus on the global stage in Tokyo.
