The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has asked the Federal Government and security institutions to take immediate action and determine to secure the release of the Peace Udoka Onyesom, a newly inaugurated lawyer who was kidnapped with his sister and several others on Jalan Raya Lokoja -okene in the Kogi state.
Udoka returned from Abuja after participating in the call ceremony to the bar when he and other passengers were kidnapped by armed strikers, triggered anger in the legal community.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, San, described the kidnapping as “unacceptable and truly cursed,” emphasizing emotional and psychological victims in affected families.
“It is very heartbreaking that when our nation must celebrate the future of the legal profession, young lawyers and their families experience such terrible trials,” Osigwe said.
The NBA urged the government to prioritize the release of all direct and safe victims, including Udoka and his sister, and call for stronger and coordinated efforts to curb an incapable feeling that increased on the entire Nigerian highway.
