NCoS dismisses three officers for misconduct

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has dismissed three officers and sanctioned others for misconduct.

The Public Relations Officer of the Service, Abubakar Umar, Assistant Controller of Corrections (ACC), disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

Umar said, in order to maintain high standards of discipline and professionalism, his party was reviewing various cases of unprofessional behavior from the affected staff.

He said the cases included gross dereliction of duty, absence without permission, trafficking in prohibited items and general inefficiency.

The spokesman added that 20 personnel were dismissed and released.

Umar said: “This applies to various violations they were accused of; while an officer who was previously suspended was reinstated after undergoing a review.

“Apart from that, a total of three personnel were compulsorily retired, six personnel were demoted, and 13 personnel received both verbal and written warnings.

“These sanctions are in line with the principle of zero tolerance for abuses committed by staff, the main mantra of the Inspector General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, and are aimed at ridding Correctional Institutions of immoral elements and irresponsible people.

“This is to improve professionalism and strengthen discipline, ethics, and excellence in officers and their subordinates.”
