The Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kwara State, Hajia Fatima Abiola-Popoola, has proposed that newly admitted university students should be subjected to mandatory drug testing as part of the admission process.
He explained that this would “work as a preventative measure while offering early intervention and counselling to those who already use drugs to prevent them from becoming problem users.”
Hajia Abiola-Popoola made this suggestion during a radio programme in Ilorin.
The NDLEA chief also expressed concern over the growing number of drug users in the country.
He said: “A 2018 survey shows that 14.3 million people were using drugs in Nigeria. One in seven people in Nigeria is a drug user and one in four is a woman.
“This shows that the company is in trouble because the house manager is a woman.”
