NDLEA raids warehouse, seizes drugs worth N4.7 billion, arrests siblings in Aba

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has busted a drug warehouse run by a cartel controlled by drug lords identified as 49-year-old Kelechi Monday Nwaobasi and his 50-year-old sister, Chinwe Rose Nwaobasi.

Spokesperson of the agency, Femi Babafemi, who confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, said that operatives from the NDLEA Special Operations Unit, busted the cartel and following the arrest of the siblings, the operatives seized a consignment of cocaine and methamphetamine worth over N4. .7 billion street value from their hideout in Aba, Abia state.

“The special operation carried out on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 June 2024, at 3B, Boundary Avenue, Aba, and a residence along Ohia road, Ohia, Abia State was carried out after months of intelligence gathering, leading to the arrest of the leaders gang and combined seizure of 20.76 kilograms of cocaine and methamphetamine from them,” said Babafemi.

“In a related development, NDLEA operatives in Lagos state have discovered a large warehouse containing large quantities of codeine-based syrup, located at Comfort Oboh area in Kirikiri, where four persons linked to the import and distribution of opioids were arrested during an intelligence-led raid to these facilities.

“Those arrested include: Kingsley Amanambu Obumneke, 38; Emeka Emmanuel, 48; Bornaventure Ugochukwu, 59; and Martin Dike, 56, while a total of 82,000 bottles of opioids worth over N600 million street value, a Toyota Tacuma truck and two buses used to distribute the substance were recovered from the location on Monday June 10, 2024. when NDLEA officers carried out an operation.

“Two days later, on Wednesday June 12, officers intercepted another suspect, Ibrahim Abdulhamid with 29,100 tramadol pills and other opioids as well as 3.9 liters of codeine syrup in Alaba Suru, Ojo local council area of ​​the state.

“A total of 230,600 225mg and 200mg tramadol pills were recovered from the duo of Yasir Rabi’u, 23, and Abubakar Ado, 30, who are major distributors of illegal drugs in Kano and Jigawa states, when they were arrested on Monday 10 June in Gadar Tamburawa Kano area.

Likewise, another suspect, Hassan Abdullahi Ali, 25, was arrested with 150 bottles of codeine syrup in the Kofar Nassarawa area of ​​Kano on Tuesday 11 June.

“In Ogun state, NDLEA agents on Monday June 10 seized 390kg of marijuana and arrested the trio Muhammad Sani, Nura Mohammad and Samaila Rabe in an early morning raid in Ibese area of ​​the state, while officers on Wednesday June 12 blew up skuchies who makes skuchies. factory in Sabo area of ​​Shagamu town where seven suspects were arrested.

“They include: Kareem Jamiu; Oriyimi Come on; Bamidele Wasiu; Rasheed Olarewanju; Ramota Lawal; Amudalat Olarewanju; and Adeniyi Omotosho.

“In Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, two suspects: Muhammad Abba, 33, and Samson Ehizogie, 42, were arrested with 3,550 bottles of “Akuskura”, a new psychotropic mixture, by officers in raids on Friday June 14 at Garki Area 10 and Dutse Suokale, both members of the FCT.

“While Emmanuel Ogechi, 24, was caught with 11,200 tramadol pills on Wednesday 12 June along the Otukpo-Enugu road, by NDLEA operatives in Benue state, Anayo Onwe, 40, was caught with 62.4kg of cannabis sativa in Nteje as well as 1kg of methamphetamine in his possession the fleeing suspects, in Oraifite, both in Anambra state were seized.

“In Kwara state, Muhammed Musa, 24, was caught with 33kg of cannabis at Bode-Saadu, Jebba, while Shokuro Adeola, 59, was caught with 11.5kg of the same substance along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Oyo state.

“Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the officers and men of the Special Operations Unit, Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Ekiti, Oyo, Kwara, Anambra, Benue and FCT Command Agencies for the arrest and seizure.
