The National Economic Council (NEC) on Wednesday urged states that have not yet submitted their reports on the proposed state police to submit their reports by September 9.
The acting governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Lawal, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the 144th NEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said: βAt todayβs NEC meeting, updates to the state police establishment were considered and this is a result of the security challenges we face across the country.
βTo ensure robust security in our country, the NEC is considering the formation of state police and has asked states to submit their inputs for consideration.
βToday, all states were asked to submit their reports for consideration by the NEC. Incidentally, there are four states that did not submit their reports.

βAnd for that purpose, the NEC has decided that all states must submit their submissions by Monday next week.
βOtherwise, any decision taken by the NEC regarding the formation of state police will be binding on states that refuse to make statements.β
President Bola Tinubu and the governors of 36 states on February 15 agreed on the creation of state police as a solution to the country’s security challenges.
All states except Adamawa, Kebbi, Kwara and Sokoto have submitted their reports on the matter to the NEC for implementation.
