The Nigerian Education Loan Fund on Tuesday announced that it would release the sum of N850 million to institutions as fees today (Wednesday).
This is in addition to the over N1.7 billion that was distributed to about 20,000 students.
The Fund’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyer, made this known at a press briefing in Abuja.
“The sum of N850 million will be released today into NELFUND’s account by the institutions. This is in addition to the N1.7 billion that has already been disbursed.”
Sawyer previously revealed that the fund paid institutional fees to 20,000 students through their institutions.
He also noted that a total of 260,000 loans, including institutional and maintenance fees, have been approved.
No fewer than 1.2 million students are expected to benefit from this cardinal programme of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The president approved N35 billion for the launch of the programme after signing the bill supporting the programme on April 3.
