NEMA educates residents on the accident of oil tankers, fire prevention …

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, launched an awareness campaign on the accident of the oil tankers and the fire prevention measures in Kwara.

The general manager of Nema, Mrs. Zubaida Umar said that the campaign was not only another event but an invitation to action.

The news agency of Nigeria (Nan) reports that the campaign was held in Oloru Tanker Park in the local government of Moro in Kwara aimed to raise awareness of the public on the dangers of the accident of the oil tankers and firefighters.

Umar, represented by Mr. Hussini Isah, head of the operations responsible for Niger and Kwara, said that the campaign was to raise awareness of the dangers and risks associated with oiler’s operations.

“Let the collection be the beginning of a new chapter in which we move from reactions to preventions, from silence to defense and complacency to collective responsibilities,” he said.

He said that the campaign was to share knowledge and better practices to prevent catastrophes and strengthen partnerships between government agencies, rescuers and public.

Other objectives of the campaign were to reduce the frequency and impact of the explosion and fires of the oil tankers, exhorting the participants to actively involve and share ideas to support safety in their communities.

Umar underlined the need for collective responsibility in preventing catastrophes, in recognizing the importance of collaboration in achieving the agency’s objectives.

Even speaking, Moshood Mogaji, executive secretary of the state of Kwara, emergencies management agency (Kwasema) said that the interested parties had a collective responsibility to prevent catastrophes.

In his observations, Alhaji. Suleiman Abdulaziz, vice -president of the local government of Moro, appreciated Nema for having sensitized the residents of the area on the dangers of the oilman’s accident and fire prevention.

The campaign presented an emergency security training of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and Fire Safety Training by the Kwara firefighters, as well as the distribution of flyers and educational stickers in English languages, Yoruba and Nupe.

Participants include; Federal Road Safety Corps (Frsc), Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Police, Nigerian Union of road transport workers (Nurtw), Nigerian Union of Oil and Natural Gas Workers (Nupeng) and traditional leaders.
