Netanyahu is looking for tariff assistance, Gaza’s Ceilent Reform in the Trump White House Meeting

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the White House on Monday, trying to persuade President Donald Trump to give Israel to release from the new US tariff forced and to gather further support regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza and tension with Iran.

Netanyahu, the first foreign leader to meet with Trump since January returned to the office, aimed at discussing “the stinging tariffs that have shaken the world.” “We will talk about trade, and we will talk about clear subjects,” Trump told reporters at the Air Force One. “There are many things that happen to the Middle East now that must be silenced.”

Netanyahu’s agenda includes a meeting with US Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick and US trade representative Jamieson Greer on Sunday night, followed by a meeting with Trump Middle Eastern messenger, Steve Witkoff on Monday. The main goal is to convince Trump to reverse or reduce 17 percent levy to Israel’s imports.

Before his departure from Budapest, Netanyahu stressed the importance of the meeting. “I am the first international leader, the first foreign leader to meet with President Trump in a very important matter for the Israeli economy,” he said in a statement.

“I believe this reflects special personal relationships and unique bonds between the United States and Israel, which is very vital today.” He has stated that the discussion will include “Tariff regimes that have also been forced on Israel.”

Analysts suggest Netanyahu trying to get a tariff release for Israel. “The urgency (from a visit) makes sense in terms of stopping him before the institutionalization,” said Jonathan Rynhold, Head of Political Studies at Bar-Alan University in Tel Aviv. He noted that such an exception would “please the Republican Party in the congress, which voters care about Israel but do not want to face Trump about this at this time.”

Israel has tried to overtake the tariff by lifting all Israeli tasks remaining for US goods, but Trump did not give exemption, quoting the US trade deficit with Israel.

In addition to trade, Netanyahu also aims to discuss war in Gaza, Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and “threats developed from Iran,” according to his office. “Israel continued the great attack in Gaza on March 18, and a ceasefire for weeks with Hamas that the United States, Egypt and Qatar had become pursuit.”

The new conflict has resulted in significant victims, with “nearly 1,400 people died in the new Israeli air and land operations, according to the Ministry of Health in the area controlled by Hamas.” “Palestinian militants in Gaza still hold 58 hostages, including 34 Israeli military said they were dead.”

Regarding Iran, “Trump has urged to ‘direct talks’ with Tehran in a new agreement to curb the Nuclear Program of the Islamic Republic.” However, “Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghai said the tehran proposal for indirect negotiations is ‘generous, responsible and wise.'” The potential for Israeli military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities, perhaps with US support, remains a point of speculation.
