The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has given Tom Saintfeit an ultimatum to accept their salary offer or risk losing his job at the Super Eagles following his outrageous wage demand, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

According to what we have gathered and as first reported by Nigerian journalist Tobi Adepoju, Saintfeit demands a monthly salary of $100,000, something that the NFF considers outrageous and unrealistic and is only willing to pay half of that amount.

His proposal is $50,000 and will cover any assistants the coach wants to bring with him, but the coach, who says he will have to pay compensation to his current employers in the Philippines before he leaves, is adamant that it is his demand or not.

That impasse has put a halt to talks and a source at the club said Saintfeit had taken them by surprise because his agent had told them he was open to being paid around $30,000 a month when he indicated his interest in the job.

Now that he is the favourite he has raised his demands and if he does not come down to what the NFF are willing to pay him and have offered him, they will be forced to settle for the original option in Eric Chelle, who has no problem accepting the salary but there are other issues.

Chelle was chosen by the NFF technical committee ahead of Saintfeit, but a breakdown in talks over the composition of his assistants and administrative staff led to a breakdown in the talks.

It is another twist in the never-ending soap opera over who will be the new coach of the Nigeria senior national team as the start date of the AFCON qualifiers draws closer.

In less than a month, they will face the Republic of Benin and Rwanda respectively in their first two qualifying matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
