NGX: Equity markets started the week with a loss of N1.3tr for investors

Investors in the Nigerian equity market lost N1.3 trillion on the resumption of trading on Monday.

This follows the drop in prices of shares such as Consolidated Hallmark Plc, Deap Cap, and GTCO, among others, on the stock exchange floor.

The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) fell to 199,014.02 points from 201,156.85 points recorded on the previous day.

After five hours of trading on the capital market, equity capitalization fell to N127.7 trillion from N129.1 trillion recorded by the exchange on Wednesday.

Market breadth was negative, with 31 stocks advancing, 38 declining, and 78 unchanged in 139,458 transactions.

A total of 848,835,930 shares were traded worth N53.3 billion.

Presco, Zichis and John Holt led the gainers chart, with share price growth of 10%, 9.91% and 9.70% respectively, closing at N1,871.20, N9.43 and N13.00 per share, up from N1,701.10, N8.58 and N11.85 per share.

Hallmark Plc Consolidated, Deap Cap and GTCO led the rest of the price declines with price drops of 9.64%, 8.37% and 8.18% respectively to close at N4.50, N5.91 and N105.00 per share, down from the previous N4.98, N6.45 and N114.35 per share.

On the volume index, UBA led trading with 114 million shares in 3,866 transactions, followed by Wema Bank which traded 111 million shares in 1,726 transactions.

Access Holding Plc traded 54 million shares in 5,115 transactions.

On the value index, MTN Nigeria traded shares worth N17.4 billion in 16,576 transactions, followed by UBA, which traded equities worth N5.5 billion in 3,866 transactions.

Zenith Bank traded shares worth N4.0 billion in 8,691 transactions.
