The Federal Government has declared all 256 detention centres across the country as “red zones” ahead of the #EndBadGovernance protests scheduled to begin on August 1.
The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Haliru Nababa, gave the warning in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Abubakar Umar, in Abuja.
He asked people or groups who have no business at the correctional center to stay away from the facility.
Nababa said: “In view of the planned nationwide protest action to be held on August 1, the department wishes to inform the public that these detention centers have been designated as red zones.

“Furthermore, the agency would like to appeal to the public that detention and non-detention centers are crucial national assets and are closely related to public safety and national security.
“Disturbing or attacking them will cause disruption of law and order, and further worsen public security in general.”
CG urges Nigerians to join the service to ensure protection of correctional facilities.
He said adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure no correctional facility was “tainted”.
Nababa added that the Ministry of Interior Joint Task Force (MOIJTF) has been activated to provide extra security in and around detention facilities across the country.
