Minister of Education, Dr. Supi Alausa, said on Thursday that the 2009 resolution remains a binding agreement between the Federal Government and the University Academic Staff (ASUU).
Alausa, according to a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Director of the Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, Ny. Folasade Boriowo, made clarification during interaction with journalists.
Ministerial spokesman said the minister’s statement was misinterpreted, therefore the need to correct.
He remembered that the former Minister of Education, Adamu, in 2017, inaugurated the re -negotiation committee to review the 2009 agreement.
The process caused the preparation of the Nimi Briggs agreement in May 2021.

He said: “However, it is important to emphasize that the Draft Agreement 2021 was not signed by the Federal Government.
“When the minister stated yesterday (Thursday) that ‘no new agreement was signed’ with Asuu, he referred specifically to the Draft Nimi Briggs 2021 document, which had not been officially executed.
“Therefore, the ministry reiterates that the 2009 FGN-Asuu agreement remains the last formal signed agreement.
“The NIMI Briggs 2021 draft agreement is not signed but functions as the latest framework for discussion.”
Boriowo emphasized that the federal government remained committed to ending the 16 -year -old deadlock with Asuu in a sustainable manner and constitutionally supported.
“The Ministry of Education urges the public and all stakeholders to ignore misinterpretation and note that the commitment of the federal government to solve problems with Asuu remains firm under the renewable hope agenda,” he said.
