Nigeria makes history in athletics as the 4x100m mixed relay team is made of gold

In an innovative moment for Nigerian athletics, the 4x100m mixed relay team of the country assured a historical gold medal, the first since the event was officially recognized by World Athletics.

Iyanuoluwa Bada’s quartet, Janet Adesiyan, Chidera Ezeakor, and favored Ashe offered a sparking performance that captivated the crowd and marked a new chapter on the Nigeria athletics journey.

Testifying the historical feat was the general director of the National Sports Commission, the Honorable Bukola Olopade, who praised the achievement of athletes as a proud moment for the nation.

“This is a time time not only for athletics, but for Nigerian sports as a whole,” said the DG, radiant of pride. “These young athletes have shown what determination, teamwork and belief in green green can achieve.”

After the victory, Olopade met with the athletes, congratulating them personally and offering words of encouragement. He urged them to stay focused, continue working hard and press for even greater heights.

He stressed that with continuous discipline and performance, they could soon join the growing list of Nigerian athletes who currently receive subsidies and sponsorships from the government aimed at supporting the preparation and development at the elite level.

“We are ready to support every talent that demonstrates its value and represents the country with excellence,” said Olopade. “This is just the beginning for these champions.”

The victory is celebrated throughout the country, not only as a medal, but as a symbol of Nigeria’s growing influence on world athletics, particularly in newer events such as the 4x100m mixed relay, which prove the synergy and strength of male and feminine frists that work as one.
