The federal government has tightened security at the country’s borders ahead of planned nationwide protests on August 1.
The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, stated this in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Kenneth Udo, on Saturday in Abuja.
He ordered Zonal Immigration Chiefs, State Command Superintendents and Divisional Immigration Officers across the country to be more vigilant and intensify surveillance due to the planned protests.
CG stressed that his directive was to ensure that foreign elements do not participate in the protests.

A group of Nigerians have called for a nationwide protest tagged: “End Bad Governance” to express their dissatisfaction over the economic hardship and other problems plaguing the country.
Nandap said: “In accordance with the responsibility of securing the country’s gates that is placed on the shoulders of the Service, the officers, especially the Head of the Border Command, are tasked to rise up and carry out their duties.
“This is done by ensuring that no foreign elements can exploit the protests to disrupt the stability of the country.”
