Nigeria to save workers who were stranded in the Republic of Central Africa

The federal government has launched an urgent operation to save and repatriate a group of Nigerian workers who were reportedly abandoned in the Bambari region of the Central African Republic, following the emergence of troublesome videos online.

Records, which have been widely distributed throughout the social media platform, showed a number of Nigerian citizens stranded about 850 kilometers from Bangui, the capital of the Republic of Central Africa, after being allegedly abandoned by their employers and facilitators.

Reacting to the situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja confirmed in a statement on Friday that the Nigerian Embassy in Bangui had succeeded in achieving people affected and had begun to coordinate their evacuation.

The statement, signed by Kimiebi Ebienfa, a spokesman for the ministry, assured that efforts were being carried out not only to secure their safe parts but also to overcome their welfare during the process.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to inform that the affected Nigerians have been contacted by hardworking officials from our mission in the Central African Republic, and the Nigerian Embassy in Bangui is actively involved with related authority to ensure safety, protection and rapid repatriation of Nigerian citizens affected.”

According to the ministry, Nigeria’s mission has recovered the worker’s passport and sent a vehicle to take it from Bambari. Their arrival at Bangui is expected on Saturday, July 26, under the military escort.

“Their passport has been successfully taken successfully, and a vehicle has been sent to Bambari to evacuate the Nigerians who were stranded to Bangui. They are likely to arrive in the Capital City with military escort on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The discussion also took place with companies for their accommodation and welfare when in Bangui and their presentation that will soon occur.

While repeating its commitment to protect citizens abroad, the Federal government also warned the Nigerians who plan to work abroad to conduct thorough tests and follow the right legal procedures before traveling.

“The federal government reiterates its commitment to protect the rights and dignity of its citizens everywhere in the world.

However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to give advice to Nigerians who travel abroad to work to verify the credibility of their employers and ensure the right documentation before leaving.

Nigerians are also advised to register their presence and their employees with the Nigerian embassy every time they are in any foreign country to prevent unpleasant experiences in case of consular problems, “he said.

Efforts are ongoing to ensure safe returns from all Nigerians affected in the coming days.
