In an aggressive crackdown on illegal oil sourcing in the Niger Delta, troops from the Nigerian Army’s Sixth Division have stepped up operations, achieving significant successes.

According to Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 6 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, ongoing efforts have resulted in the destruction of over 27 new illegal refining sites and the confiscation of over 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil.

He said that during the recent operations, troops of the 29 Battalion targeted the notorious Imo River area, a known hotspot for illegal activities.

Danjuma added that they had managed to dismantle 23 new illegal refining sites and seize 80,000 litres of stolen crude oil from two storage basins.

He said three vehicles loaded with around 8,000 litres of illegally refined diesel fuel were seized.

In a separate operation at Cowthorne Channel II, Degema Local Government Area, troops from the 16 Brigade, in collaboration with other security agencies, discovered and destroyed four illegal refining sites, along with three barrels and metal pits containing approximately 6,000 litres of stolen crude oil.

Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6th Division, commended the troops for their tireless efforts in dismantling these illegal operations.

He urged them to preserve the integrity of the pipelines, ensuring that oil companies can operate without interruption.

It also called on host communities to continue providing credible information to support ongoing efforts to curb illegal fuel supply in the region.
