In a major counter-terrorism operation, the Nigerian Army has managed to clear and destroy a terrorist camp belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Ezere Forest, Umuawa Aku, Okigwe Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State.
The operation, which spread to Akawa Nnneato and Lomara communities in Umunneochi Local Government Area of ββAbia State, led to the seizure of a Multi-Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and other miscellaneous items.
Based on useful intelligence about harassment and intimidation of local residents, troops quickly mobilized to neutralize the threat.
Once there, they engaged the terrorists in a violent firefight, driving them out of their camp.
The troops chased the fleeing terrorists, forcing them to abandon a large quantity of weapons, including a GPMG, various types of ammunition, two motorcycles and two communications radios.
“This operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
“Troops remain determined to dismantle any threat to ensure the safety of communities.
“The success of this operation is a testament to the Army’s commitment to protecting civilians and fighting terrorism.
“It not only disrupts the activities of the terrorist group, but also sends a strong message about the army’s determination to restore and maintain order in the affected areas,” the army said.
