Nigerian athletes Ajayi and Ashe failed to advance to the men’s 100m final, while Noah Lyles took gold

Noah Lyles emerged as the Olympic champion in the men’s 100m after recording a personal best time to win the title in 9.79 seconds on Sunday night.

Kishane Thompson had to settle for a Silver medal in the race, clocking the same time of 9.79 seconds to finish in second place.

Fred Kerley won the bronze medal with a time of 9.81 seconds.

Akani Simbine broke a new South African Record of 9.82 seconds and finished 4th in the race, narrowly missing out on the podium.

Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe of Team Nigeria performed below par in the semi-finals and failed to make it to the finals.

Ajayi, who impressed in the heat on Saturday, fell short of expectations in the semi-finals, finishing only sixth in his race.

South Africa’s Akani Simbine won with a time of 9.87 seconds, and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo was second in 9.91 seconds.

Ashe, also making his Olympic debut, finished sixth in the semifinals.

Jamaica’s Oblique Seville won the race in 9.81 seconds, while world champion Noah Lyles took second in 9.83 seconds.

Meanwhile, Nigerian duo Samuel Ogazi and Chidi Okezie made their Olympic debut in the men’s 400m at the Paris Games, with Ogazi producing a personal best to reach the semi-finals.
