Dricus du Plessis retained his middleweight title at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia, by knocking out Israel Adesanya in the fourth round in an intense contest.
The 30-year-old South African stunned Adesanya, a Nigerian-born New Zealander, with a right hook before taking him to the ground and locking in a rear-naked choke.
After the fight, Du Plessis paid tribute to Adesanya, and the two fighters reconciled their differences after pre-fight tensions.

“To share this octagon with a legend… this guy has done so much for this sport and I’m really sorry that I disrespected him because he’s from Africa – that was not my intention. Tonight Africa won no matter what,” Du Plessis said.
“It’s an honor for me to share this cage with such a legend. I have the utmost respect for him, a true warrior. Trust me, I don’t want to get my ass kicked by that guy again.”
Former UFC middleweight champion Adesanya, fighting for the first time in 11 months after taking a break from the sport, cited mental and physical exhaustion after five title fights in 16 months.
