The follow -up mission of the European Union Election (EFM) on Friday urged the federal government to advance on time election reforms in the country.
Head of EFM EU mission, Mr. Barry Andrews, made a call at a press conference in Abuja.
Andrews said the progress of reform would help restore public confidence and facilitate credible and inclusive elections in 2027.
He stressed that the country’s democratic resilience depends on reforms that match citizens.
He expressed satisfaction with the legislative momentum seen in the 2025 Election Law (Amendment) and the ongoing constitutional review process.
Observers, however, note that time is almost gone for the progress of reform.

Andrews said: “We welcome the legislative momentum seen in the 2025 Election Law Bill and the ongoing Constitutional Review Process, however, time quickly runs out.
“Unless this reform is concluded in the next few months, there is a risk of repeating serious deficiencies in 2023.
“We encourage all political actors to seize inclusive and credibility of the 2027 election momentum to provide reforms that can protect transparency.
“Eu EFM in 2023 gave 23 recommendations, including strengthening the Independent National Election Commission (Inec), ensuring a transparent transmission system, and protecting freedom of expression.
“Recommendations also include overcoming impunity for violations of election, eliminating legal ambiguity, and promoting meaningful women’s representation.”
