Nigerian Oscars Committee Invites Entries for 2025 Awards

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has called on Nollywood filmmakers to urgently submit entries to the 97th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars).

The committee led by actress Stephanie Linus specifically asked Nigerian filmmakers to submit their feature films for consideration in the International Feature Film (IFF) category.

NOSC, which is certified by AMPAS and is responsible for selecting Nigeria’s official entry for the IFF Awards, said on Tuesday that the submission portal will be open from August 1, 2024 to August 30, 2024 at www.thenosc.org

The IFF Awards are a special category for feature-length films made outside the United States where at least half of the dialogue is in a language other than English.

The academy requires submitted films to meet certain standards, such as having correct and legible English subtitles, adhering to a specified filmmaking format, and proof of theatrical release.

The NOSC also announced reforms with the addition of new members, including Ali Nuhu, managing director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Blessing Effiom Egbe, a producer and director, Ijeoma Grace Agu, an actress, Kene Okwuosa, CEO of Nile Entertainment, and Victor Akande, a journalist, writer and film critic.
