Nigerian troops arrest suspected killer of 18-year-old in Kaduna

The Nigerian army has arrested a soldier suspected of killing an 18-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed, in Kaduna State.

The teenager was allegedly shot by a soldier on patrol in Samaru, Zaria in Kaduna State on Tuesday.

Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said troops received a distress call that bandits had gathered in Samaru area of ​​Zaria in large numbers, burning tyres on the road and pelting security personnel with stones.

β€œTroops were immediately mobilized and arrived at the scene to disperse the crowd and enforce the curfew imposed by the state government.

β€œUpon arrival at the scene, the rioters brazenly attempted to attack the troops, prompting a soldier to fire warning shots to scare the rioters away, which unfortunately led to Mohammed’s death.

β€œThe soldiers involved have been arrested and are undergoing interrogation at the time of this report,” the spokesman added.
