Nigerian troops arrest suspected killer of 18-year-old in Kaduna

The Nigerian army has arrested a soldier suspected of killing an 18-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed, in Kaduna State.

The teenager was allegedly shot by a soldier on patrol in Samaru, Zaria in Kaduna State on Tuesday.

Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said troops received a distress call that bandits had gathered in Samaru area of ​​Zaria in large numbers, burning tyres on the road and pelting security personnel with stones.

“Troops were immediately mobilized and arrived at the scene to disperse the crowd and enforce the curfew imposed by the state government.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the rioters brazenly attempted to attack the troops, prompting a soldier to fire warning shots to scare the rioters away, which unfortunately led to Mohammed’s death.

“The soldiers involved have been arrested and are undergoing interrogation at the time of this report,” the spokesman added.
