Nigeria’s Tems and Rema make former US President Obama’s summer playlist

Nigerian singers Tems and Rema have been included in former US President Barack Obama’s summer playlist as songs to listen to as the summer draws to a close.

The former president, who shared his playlist on X on Monday, picked ‘Love me jeje’ by Tems and ‘Yayo’ by Rema among his favorite songs for the season.

Tems, real name Temilade Openiyi is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer, who rose to fame after featuring on Wizkid’s 2020 single ‘Essence’.

He wrote and released the song ‘Love Me JeJe’ in April 2024. The song is a rehash of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 single of the same name.

Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, is a rapper, singer, and songwriter. He rose to fame in 2018 through his freestyle performance of D’Prince’s song ‘Gucci Gang’ which he uploaded on Instagram.

The song ‘Yayo’ which was released in 2024 is the fourth song from his album ‘HEIS’.

Speaking about her picks, Obama said, “As summer comes to a close, I wanted to share some of the songs I’ve been listening to lately – and no playlist would be complete without an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!”
