Niger’s Bago government vows to track down bandits and informers

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has issued a warning to bandits and their informants in the state, threatening that his government is ready to confront them.

The governor who stated this in a video aired by Gaskiya News Hausa, boasted that the state government has received support from the federal government and international bodies to make maximum efforts against these criminals.

He called on people in the state to provide information about criminals to security agencies.

He stressed the impact of insecurity on education and agriculture in the state, and said that banditry had disrupted schools and agricultural activities and set the state back.

“I warn you all, I swear by God Almighty, we are now fully prepared to confront the bandits, and we have begun. We have received sufficient support from the Federal Government of Nigeria and foreign governments to do the needful.

“I was in Borgu three days ago, and I told them, but they thought I was joking. But the way and manner I spoke to them, they have to understand that this is no longer business as usual,” he said.

Bago urged citizens to join hands to eliminate the threat, not harbor bandits or their informants, and provide information to security agencies.

The governor revealed that technology is available to monitor communications related to criminal activities.

“Don’t hide them, don’t hide informants or suspects in your homes and forests. Give us information, and we will pick them up.

“Agriculture and education in Niger State are hampered. Students are no longer going to boarding schools, and this is setting us back.

“For the informants present here, we have gadgets capable of tracking and monitoring your calls, and if we find you talking or communicating with bandits or anyone on our wanted list, we will add you to the wanted list of bandits and informers.

“If an informant goes missing, I Bago am responsible for their disappearance. I swear to God Almighty that I will hold me accountable. If there is an informant you know and you are here, I Bago will hunt you down,” he said.
