Nimet estimates a national lightning storm, cloudy weather from Sunday

The Nigerian Meteorology Agency has estimated a mixture of lightning storms, sunny and cloudy weather conditions in various parts of the country from Sunday to Tuesday.

In the weekly weather views released on Saturday in Abuja, the agency predicted that starting from Sunday, May 18, there would be cloud spots and lightning storms in some parts of the Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa stated in the afternoon and evening.

“For the northern-middle region, expecting a clear sky with a lightning storm that is isolated in the Kwara, highlands, nasarawa, niger, benue, and kogi later on,” Nimet said.

In the southern region, the agency predicted storms of lightning on Sunday morning, especially in cross river, lagos, ogun, bayelsa, rivers, delta, and the state of Akwa Ibom, with the expected isolated lightning storm at night.

“On Monday, the bright sky with cloud spots is expected in the northern region, with opportunities for morning storms in Taraba and Adamawa countries,” the agency said.

“Hopefully the storm of lightning that is isolated in several parts of Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa in the afternoon or evening.

“In the north-middle, the prediction includes a bright sky with several clouds and storms of lightning isolated in the territory of the capital of Federal, Niger, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, and the State of the Highlands.

“On Tuesday, there will be a bright sky with several clouds in the northern region in the morning, with isolated lightning storms in several parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa.

“Isolated lightning storms are also expected to be later on that day in several parts of Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and the state of Taraba.

“In the northern-middle region, the prediction includes bright sky with cloud spots and lightning storms that are isolated in the afternoon or evening in the Federal Capital, Nasarawa, Kogi, Highlands, Benue, and Niger countries.

“In southern states including cross river, lagos, bayelsa, rivers, and akwa ibom, hoping to experience morning storms, with additional storms in the future.”

Therefore, the agency urged the community to take the necessary precautions because strong winds can precede lightning storms.

“Residents are advised to secure loose objects to prevent damage. They must also avoid driving under heavy rain, deciding electrical equipment, and staying clean from high trees to avoid falling branches.

“The airline operator must consult with certain weather report agents to assist flight planning,” he added.
