NNPP will appeal the leadership dispute decision

The New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) has decided to appeal the decision of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court confirming Dr. Agbo Major as the original leader of the party.

NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Johnson described the assessment of the party leadership as a breach of justice and an attack on democracy.

He said what the court was doing was an attempt to appeal the decision of the Abia State High Court, which he described as a court with coordinating jurisdiction.

“This is an action that goes against the established legal hierarchy and the doctrine of stare decisis.

“The facts are clear: a group of expelled members, acting as puppets of Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, approached the FCT High Court seeking a ‘judicial review’ of a matter already pending at the Court of Appeal, Owerri.

“This blatant disregard for sub judicial rules proves that these people are not seeking justice, but are part of a grand and desperate scheme to destabilize one of the strongest opposition parties in Nigeria, ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The court’s decision to continue the trial despite clear evidence that the NNPP never underwent trial is a fatal blow to the principle of a fair trial.

“By ignoring our written statement stating that substitute service was made at an address not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the court has signaled a lack of concern for procedural integrity,” the spokesperson said.

According to him, the ruling will erode the confidence of Nigerians and the international community in the justice system at a time when the world is witnessing the progress of democracy in the country, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Johnson assured NNPP members and Nigerians not to lose heart, saying the party remained a stronghold.

“This is just a temporary detour designed by those who fear the will of the people.

“We immediately took all necessary legal steps to appeal this injustice.

“We have absolute confidence that the appellate court will correct this anomaly and uphold the sanctity of the law.

“This grand scheme to hijack the party will fail. Nigeria’s democracy is bigger than the desperation of a few,” he concluded.
