NNPP’s distance from the switch planned by Kwankwaso to APC

The new Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from the foundation planned by the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the Congress of All Progressive (APC).

NNPP National Secretary, Dr. Oginini Olaposi, made clarification at a forum in Lagos.

He said such a step was the only decision of the former governor and his movement kankwasiya.

The Secretary added that the new Kawwaso readiness declaration to join APC confirmed the old claim that he and his loyalists were no longer part of NNPP.

Kwankwaso, Presidential candidate 2023 NNPP, on Saturday announced that his movement was ready to be in harmony with APC.

He, however, warned that his group would not be exploited for selection profits and then discarded.

Reacting, Olaposi said: “Finally, we have been justified. All negotiations with Kwankwaso must be further in his personal capacity. Our party will now rest from the resistance of their movements after their eviction for anti-party activities.”

He emphasized that NNPP, as an institution, did not have hostility of APC and could consider alliances in the future if the decision was collectively agreed upon by members.

For now, he added, the party focused on rebuilding after the internal crisis and litigation related to the Kwankwaso faction.

According to him, the memorandum of understanding between NNPP and the Kawkwasiya movement ended after the 2023 election.

“The crisis began because, instead of going peacefully, they tried to hijack a party. We can’t wait to see them elsewhere,” he said.

Oloposi further argues that Kwankwaso currently does not have a political platform, noting that many of his supporters in Kano have long defected to APC.

“The political value of Kankwaso has come down after betraying NNPP, which gave him a free platform for his president’s ambition. Every negotiation on behalf of NNPP is null and void, because he and his group are still expelled,” said the NNPP clerk.

He also criticized the delay by the Independent National Election Commission (Inec) in recognizing the new executive of the party led by Dr. Agbo Major, which was produced in a convention ordered by the court.
