The Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP) rejected the insinuations of internal crisis within its folds, stating that its elective national convention scheduled for November 15 is on the right road.
The secretary of the national party advertising, Debo Ologunagba, said this in a press conference in Abuja, stating that all the preparations for the convention were on the right way.
“I would like to be clear, the convention of the PDP will hold as expected. Each chapter is involved, our leaders throughout the country are working together and the preparations are on the right way. There is no threat to the process.
“Our members should be sure that everything that must be done are made and in a very fluid way.
“We are moving throughout the country to Ibadan. In fact, the preparatory train is already in Ibadan,” he said.
Ologunagba also rejected the speculations on internal disagreements within the National Party Work Committee (NWC), following separate conflict letters written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INC) on the state congress of the Cross River and Akwa Ibom party.
He said that some that some perceived as a conflict was simply democracy in action, observing that the PDP is a party that debates and resolves the issues through its constitution.
He said that leadership requires responsibility and the Constitution is clear about the roles of the party officers, adding that when someone has the opportunity and the privilege of being a leader in the party, the minimum expected was responsibility.

He stated that section 35 of the party’s Constitution provides for the National President’s Office, including the responsibilities for the assignment of power, requires and chairs the National Executive Committee, the National Caucus and the NWC meetings.
“The national president provides overall leadership and can evoke meetings, while the national secretary carries out administrative tasks such as the issue of notices and the maintenance of the registers.
“The secretary cannot unilaterally call meetings or release statements without approval. A part of the confusion seen in public derives from ignorance or deliberate malice,” he said.
At the Congress of the State of the Cross River Party, Ologunagba insisted that the NWC had already suspended the congress, while it also directed the South-South custodian committee to take responsibility for the party’s affairs on the state.
On the question concerning the Akwa Ibom chapter of PDP, Ologunagba claimed that the party has made clear decisions that “find themselves” and warned against every individual who tries to act outside the party authority.
“Our Constitution does not allow anyone to belong to two parts simultaneously and we will not tolerate actions that undermine the unit.
“The meeting that produced the position of the party was adequately convened, with records and videos to prove it. Anyone who affirms otherwise the public is misleading,” he said.
Reacting to the transmission of the day of the independence of President Bola Tinubu, the spokesman for the PDP described him as not very interesting and disappointing with the statements that do not reflect the reality that the Nigerians face, including the cost of life and security.
The secretary of the PDP advertising also requested transparency on the use of funds declared saved from the removal of subsidies.
Ologunagba has also described the Case transfers N25, 000 announced as an ineffective solution, claiming that “handouts do not build an economy”.
He supported real reforms through policies such as tax breaks for the renewal of the house, which according to him would have stimulated production and would create jobs, rather than token payments that deepen poverty and dependence.
He said that the PDP remains the only truly democratic party committed to providing the leadership that Nigeria needed.
