The northern chapter of the Nigerian Christian Association (CAN) has stated a deep sadness over the death of the former President of Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement issued in Kaduna on Sunday, Chairman of Northern Can, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, described the late Buhari as the figure of the father and a leader whose inheritance would continue to form the national discourse of Nigeria.
He said Buhari’s death marked the closing of an important era in Nigeria’s political history.
The Chairperson of CAN noted that although Buhari’s term of office withdraws diverse reactions, his in -depth commitment to national unity, patriotism, and discipline cannot be denied.
The former president died in England on Sunday.
Hayab said: “His leadership, first as the head of the country’s military from 1984 to 1985, and then as a democratic elected president from 2015 to 2023, left a significant impact on the Nigerian government.

“He launched a ‘war against the famous and widely considered disciplinary and corruption’ because of his unreasonable approach to the government.”
He expressed his sincere condolences to the widow of the late President, Aisha Buhari, and the entire Buhari family, urged them to find consolation in the legacy of public services and sacrificed the former leader left behind.
He also prayed for the comfort and power of Divine for families who were grieving during this national mourning period.
The scholar praised the Ball President Ahmed Tinubu for his rapid and dignified response to Buhari’s death, mainly because it stated the national mourning period and directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to accompany the late leader to remain back to Nigeria.
Hayab then asked the Nigerians to respect Buhari’s memory by fostering unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence in all religious and political divisions. He stressed that regardless of various opinions about Buhari’s policy, he must be remembered with respect and thanks.
“While the Nigerians may not always approve the results of their leadership, we must recognize his contribution and respect him as a statesman who gives his life a lot to the services of this nation,” he said.
