NPFL Transfer: Seth Mayi rejoins Kennedy Boboye on loan at Sunshine Stars

Seth Mayi, the former Akwa United midfielder who played a pivotal role in the 2021 Nigerian Premier League title win, is on the verge of a loan move to Sunshine Stars for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.

This move marks Mayi’s return to familiar territory as she will be reunited with Kennedy Boboye, her former manager.

Mayi’s time at Akwa United was marked by significant success, culminating in his first league championship.

However, his subsequent stint at Remo Stars has been less fruitful. Since leaving Akwa United after the 2022 NPFL season, Mayi has struggled with injuries and lack of game time at Remo Stars.

These issues have hampered his ability to make an impact on the pitch, and the club’s reluctance to terminate his contract by mutual consent has further complicated his situation.

The loan move to Sunshine Stars represents a promising opportunity for Mayi to rejuvenate his career. Under the guidance of Kennedy Boboye, who previously managed him at Akwa United,

Mayi will be hoping to regain his form and contribute significantly to Sunshine Stars’ campaign. Boboye’s familiarity with Mayi’s playing style and capabilities could prove advantageous as the team looks to strengthen its midfield and make a strong push in the league.

“This move is an opportunity for me to get back to my best form and help Sunshine Stars achieve their goals for the season,” said Mayi. “I am excited to work with Kennedy Boboye again and contribute to the team’s success.”

Sunshine Stars, who are currently looking to consolidate their position in the league, see this loan acquisition as a strategic boost.

Mayi’s experience and past successes under Boboye could be the key to turning the season around. The transfer is expected to be finalised soon and Mayi will join his new team in the coming days.
