NSCDC arrests nine illegal fuel dealers and others in Akwa Ibom

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested nine suspects for illegal dealing in petroleum products and other offences in Akwa Ibom State.

The NSCDC Commander in the state, Mr. Eluyemi Eluwade, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Uyo on Saturday.

Eluwade said the command’s Anti-Vandal Unit arrested the suspects along the Ikot Abasi-Port Harcourt Expressway on July 14.

He added that during the operation, officers confiscated three trucks carrying 135,000 liters of petroleum products.

He said: “The trucks were stopped for routine document checks by NSCDC personnel, who insisted on seeing relevant documents including licenses to purchase, sell and transport petroleum products as stipulated in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

“The failure of the suspects to produce complete relevant documents led to their arrest and the confiscation of their trucks for illegal trafficking in petroleum products, an offence punishable under Article 17 of the Miscellaneous Crimes Act.

“The two trucks each carried around 45,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) known as Diesel.

“The third truck was carrying approximately 45,000 litres of petroleum products believed to be crude oil or used engine oil, a petroleum by-product whose purchase, sale or transport also requires a licence.”
