Nut denies involvement in cruel political rally at Kaduna Hotel

The Nigerian Teacher Union (NUT) officially did not recognize the political meeting of violence that erupted on Saturday at one of its facilities in Kaduna, insisting disagreeing or approved the event.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference on Sunday, the National Nut President, Audu Titus Amba’s friend, clarified that the union did not have a role in the incident.

According to him, “Nut really separates from what happened on Saturday at our facility. If we previously knew that such political activities were planned, approval would not be given.”

Amba explained that the property where the incident occurred was developed through the end of the well initiative – the welfare scheme of the contribution established in 1999 by teachers in the state of Kaduna to support members during retirement or during difficulties.

He noted that this initiative not only helped many teachers build homes and improve their welfare but also gave rise to the establishment of Nut Hotels in Kaduna.

The union leader, however, expressed his regret that such facilities – built from the contribution and sacrifice of teachers – had been misused for partisan purposes.

“The hotel nuts owned by teachers in the state. Whether members have realized the nature of the meeting, access will not be given,” he said.

Amba, who also doubles as the National Vice President of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC), given that the trade union has experienced disagreement with the previous state administration of workers’ welfare, but emphasized that teachers remain committed to their profession and will not allow their facilities to become a tool for political conflict.

The union further appealed to politicians and their supporters to show respect for public institutions and to avoid their use in a way that can damage their reputation or interfere with their operations.
