NWFL SUPER-6: Nasarawa Amazon’s Esther Adesoji Flaunts Best Defender Award, Targets League Title

Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia libero, Esther Adesoji is flaunting her emergence as best defender in the regular season of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and believes it can inspire her side to conquer the ongoing Super-6 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

However, while basking in the euphoria of her best defender plaque, which she lifted alongside another that confirmed her place in the NWFL’s all star-11, Adesoji disclosed that only one of her targets for the season has so far been achieved.

She disclosed that making it to the Super 6 is only half of her ambitions for the year, as she also dreams of being crowned NWFL champion with Amazons and getting a spot on the continental level.

Although critics would conclude that her side is out of the race, after losing to Bayelsa Queens and only managing a barren draw versus Rivers Angels, Adesoji insists there is still hope for Amazons.

She went on to declare that only positive thoughts can bring success and, with her individual awards to show, she is of view that the Lafia-based side now have a major motivation to boost their ambitions.

The light-skinned amiable lass began on a spiritual note, saying, β€œFirst of all, I thank God for the opportunity. Every player needs to think positive. When I was nominated, I was happy, and I was very, very positive about winning.

β€œHere I am today, winning the award. So, I am very, very grateful. It has been a great season for me, but it was not easy from the start.

β€œBut, with the help of God, my coaches, and our chairperson, it has been a great season for me, and I’ve really enjoyed myself.”

While disclosing that she still has high hope of a happy end to the Super-6 campaign for her team, Adesoji went on to reveal that her targets this year were for Nasarawa Amazons collectively, not just herself.

Adesoji continued philosophically. β€œMy target has not been achieved yet, but I know that gradually I’m getting there.

β€œThe first target I set for myself was to qualify for the Super 6 and we qualified. My second target is to win the league and qualify for the continental stage.

β€œWith the help of God, I believe we can still get something out of it.

β€œAs for my eyes on the Super Falcons, I will leave that to God and the coach of the national team.”
