NYSC arrests staff over death of corps member in Ogun

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the arrest of one of its staff over the death of a corps member serving in Abeokuta South, Miss Victoria Ariyo

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs Caroline Embu, described the incident as a tragedy and deeply disturbing to the nation.

He said the scheme was cooperating fully with security agencies to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deaths in Abeokuta South Local Government in Ogun State.

Embu said staff members suspected of being linked to the incident had been detained, while investigations by the relevant authorities were still ongoing.

“NYSC management is deeply saddened by the disappearance of a corps member in Abeokuta, Ogun State, under circumstances that are currently being investigated by relevant authorities and stakeholders nationwide.

“We express our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and pray for the repose of his soul, asking for strength and comfort in this difficult time,” said the NYSC director.

He said the scheme maintains a strict code of conduct for staff and corps members and will not tolerate any form of misconduct or abuse of office under any circumstances.

“We assure the public that we cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities to ensure the truth is established and justice is served without fear or favor at all times,” he added.
