Obasanjo regrets cancellation of ‘Operation Feed the Nation’ by Nigerian leaders

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Thursday that the Operation Feed the Nation agricultural initiative would further enhance Nigeria’s food self-sufficiency if the country’s leaders supported it.

Obasanjo stated this at the inauguration of a new factory and launch of new products by Danone Limited, owner of Fan Milk Plc in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The former president encouraged Nigerians to invest in livestock farming.

He urged the Oyo State government to transform the state into a milk production hub by harnessing its livestock and dairy potentials.

Obasanjo also appealed to state governments to educate local farmers on dairy farming and its practices.

He commended Danone Company for its investment in Nigeria in the last 60 years.

The Obasanjo military regime established Operation Feed the Nation in 1978 to ensure food sufficiency in the country.

In his remarks, Governor Seyi Makinde said his administration would provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Makinde, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Bayo Lawal, assured investors that his government would continue to provide security and facilities while implementing policies that would support their businesses.

He thanked the company for its economic impact on the country and providing quality nutrition to the community through its various products.
