Ogun confirmed the First Lassa Fever case

The Ogun state government has confirmed the first case of Lassa fever.

Commissioner of State for Health, Dr. Tomi Caker, confirmed the case to journalists on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

He said the index case was a member of the 25 -year -old National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) who fell ill when he was in Ondo.

He added that the corps members were then taken to secondary health facilities in the regional government of Ijebu-North on March 18 and died on the same day.

Commissioners describe lassa fever as a hemorrhagic disease of the virus that causes high level fever, headaches, general body weaknesses and sore throat.

“Other symptoms may include muscle aches, coughing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain and bleeding that cannot be explained from the ears, eyes, nose, mouth and other body openings,” said Coker.
